My Personal MBA

Is an MBA worth the tuition and opportunity costs for today's marketer?

While my mind battles this one out, I have found a great alternative to the traditional $55,000 dollar business school. I've enrolled in a free online MBA program called The Personal MBA, in which you read from a selection of books and then discuss your thoughts in a forum.

Seth Godin writes in Small is the New Big that "you can learn 100 percent of the MBA curriculum at home in a month, just by reading books." Will Hunting played by Matt Damon said "You wasted $150,000 on an education you coulda got for a buck fifty in late charges at the public library."

Despite the disadvantages from the lack of social networking, prestige, and recruiting, it is a great way to expand your knowledge of business. It can also work as a source of motivation to read the books that can spark new ideas and enhance your current thinking.
